Be more dog
Dogs are a fascinating species.
They are the most phenotypically diverse mammal in the world. If you count types of breeds, standard sizes, and common color patterns, we're talking about 15,000-20,000 clearly distinguished variations.
Every dog breed shares 99.9% of their genes with wolves.
But why did wolves manage to evolve and survive, while most other animal species were eliminated by humans?
Well, while other species were afraid of humans, wolves developed a different strategy.
They became friends with humans.
"Survival of the friendliest" is the most successful evolutionary strategy that has been identified.
Other species in nature evolved using this strategy too. Flowers give bees something, so they cooperate. Penguins only survive the Antarctic winter by hugging each other.
We have a lot to learn from dogs.
A lot of human interaction is still based on the 'survival of the fittest.' The most alpha wins. The loudest voice gets heard. People are throwing others under the bus like it's a normal thing.
F*CK MAN, IT IS NOT.
Being dominant is super costly. For ourselves, for others, and for the planet.
I know we can't be utopic and change the whole system of how we operate today. But we can do the little things. Every little helps.
Brands like Co-op, John Lewis, and others have shown that having a business that isn't only about 'me, me, me' can still be profitable.
Project allocation by expertise, cultural fit, and personality types, instead of 'departmental silos,' has been proven to deliver much better results.
Strategy that is developed with multiple stakeholders from the start, consulting with people and specialists, and bringing people along the journey has a MUCH HIGHER adoption rate than when done in an Ivory Tower.
Technology is evolving so much to help us; instead of having the mindset to beat it, let's make it our friend. 🙂
The future is bright, if and only if we 'be more dog'.
